James May has revealed he suffered a serious injury after a bike accident. The injury occurred earlier this month during a charity cycle ride in London.

The former Grand Tour star fell off his bike near Hammersmith Bridge and broke his wrist. James, 61, revealed it had caused problems for the filming of his new Channel 5 series, The Great Explorers with James May.

James said he was unable to shoot several key sequences for the show due to his condition. He previously informed fans about his predicament on X.

On the social media platform, he wrote: "I'm taking part in a charity bicycle ride today, with the Armonico Consort and me old mate Oz Clarke (OBE). But I'm going in the car, because I bust my wrist in a bicycle accident."

James told The Telegraph about the challenges he's faced since the injury. Regarding his recovery, he said: "At my age, this sort of thing takes much longer to heal. I woke up one day and the one thing I never thought would happen had happened: I felt old. It's partly my hair; my baggy face."

Fans sent their well-wishes and support to the TV presenter on social media as one person wrote, “As long as you raise or donate the money for charity, that is all that matters. Hope your wrist gets better.”

His new programme aims to retrace the expeditions of famed adventurers such as James Cook, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Christopher Columbus, bringing their epic journeys and tales to life.
