Martin Lewis says Rachel Reeves won't be appearing on his ITV show after Budget

by · Birmingham Live

Martin Lewis has warned Chancellor Rachel Reeves "isn't coming" on his ITV The Martin Lewis Money Show tonight. The Money Saving Expert will be giving his Budget reaction in an hour-long episode from 8pm on ITV today, after Labour Party Chancellor Ms Reeves gave her Budget yesterday.

Taking to Twitter, now X, in the run-up to the episode airing, financial guru and consumer champion Martin wrote: "So it looks like @RachelReeves isn't coming on @itvMLshow live budget special tonight 8pm. We put in a bid weeks ago (for live or pre-recorded). Was told it was being considered, but have not heard anything.

"Shame as we're most watched current affairs show on TV by miles, no idea why her press team would put her on far less viewed political shows but not mainstream consumer tv? Don’t worry though, it means more time for me to go through the detail of what it means for you (and the chancellor misses the chance to give her interpretation)."

A Twitter/X user said: "I suspect she’s a little bit busy on the phones trying to figure out what’s going on in the financial markets." A second said: "I’m trying to think why she might not be too keen to appear on your show Martin."

"That's a shame #UKmortgageprisoners were hoping you could question her total lack of inclusion of the mortgage prisoner scandal in the budget," another wrote. "Because she doesn't want to face the harsh realities facing those screwed by the budget yesterday," another said.

Another typed: "I think given how the mainstream press have been battering the govt that’s where she wants to try and control the narrative." Another said: "Shes pulled out of a couple of interviews today. I know this one wasnt confirmed as such but i think she is keeping her head down."
