Liam Payne's dad 'pays final visit to hotel shrine ahead of huge funeral'

by · Birmingham Live

Liam Payne's dad has reportedly paid a final visit to the place where his son died before he is due to return to the UK. The One Direction star died when he fell from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Fans have created a makeshift shrine outside the hotel, with a tree trunk covered with flowers, pictures and notes. The 31-year-old's dad Geoff flew out to the Argentine capital within days of hearing of the late singer's passing.

He previously had visited the site where his son died but is understood to have made another visit to see tributes left at the scene on Tuesday, November 5. According to Argentine news site Infobae, Geoff paused to look at the tributes as some fans watched on nearby.

He could be seen grasping a single red rose in his hands. The grieving dad also embraced emotional fans who handed him a candle, which he left at the foot of the memorial.

It is believed he also went to the cemetery where his son's body is being kept, along with a security team. Payne's body was moved to the British Cemetery, in the capital, last weekend.

Preparations to repatriate Payne's body are under way. His body is expected to be flown back to the UK this week, with a funeral taking place soon after.

Details of the funeral have not been announced but sourced previously suggested it would be a 'huge affair'. It has not been confirmed where the service will be held but it could take place in his home city of Wolverhampton.

A source told RadarOnline.com: "Liam's funeral is going to be packed with A-listers as he was so well-loved in the showbiz community, and so many of them are so sad about his tragic death. His family want to keep his farewell low-key and respectful, as it's what Liam would have wanted as he was so down to earth.

"But there are going to be a series of song tributes from some very big acts as he loved singing and making music until the end." Payne - who shared seven-year-old son Bear with Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole - died at the hotel on October 16.

He had been in Argentina with girlfriend Kate Cassidy before she returned alone to her Florida home.
