Kate Garraway has admitted to a addiction that late husband Derek Draper "hated". Kate, who was hosting ITV Good Morning Britain on Thursday, addressed her penchant for a vape with her co-stars in a discussiong over an impending UK ban.

The former I'm A Celebrity star told her co-hosts: “The last thing I want to do is any way in sanction [vaping], because I don’t now. But my experience was, after Billy was born, I did smoke before and I was craving going back to smoking but I didn’t want to.

“I thought [vaping] was amazing because it didn’t smell, at that point you could do it anywhere, it must have been like smoking in the 1970s, you didn’t have to stand outside. Everybody said it was better for you, and I did feel much better. I got the nicotine hit.”

She explained: "I think we had some props in here or something ridiculous, and I picked it up and I was instantly addicted, like beyond anything. I couldn’t believe it, and it made me realise, particularly those disposable ones, are so addictive.”

She then added that Derek “hated her” vaping habit, saying: “He hated smoking in all forms, he said ‘It took 200 years to discover tobacco was bad for you, these are going to be bad for you.” From June 2025 it will be illegal to sell single-use vapes, in a move designed to combat environmental damage and their widespread use by children.

The legislation had been laid out in parliament, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs confirmed on Wednesday. The department said it had worked closely with devolved governments on the ban and would “align coming into force dates”.

The circular economy minister, Mary Creagh, said throwaway vapes were “extremely wasteful and blight our towns and cities”. She added: “That is why we are banning single-use vapes as we end this nation’s throwaway culture. This is the first step on the road to a circular economy, where we use resources for longer, reduce waste, accelerate the path to net zero and create thousands of jobs across the country.”
