Old Birmingham pub launches Sunday roasts with a 'twist' from new landlord's heritage

by · Birmingham Live

A historic pub in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter has started serving a unique take on a Sunday roast in a tribute to the new landlord's proud heritage.

The former Pig and Tail pub, which dates back to the 1800s, relaunched as Temper and Brown under new ownership in August. Previously known as the George and Dragon, the Grade II-listed boozer lay empty for years before being restored in 2016.

After the Albion Street venue's latest reopening, Birmingham-born entrepreneur Roifield Brown said it was a 'huge privilege' to have his name above the door and hinted at plans to bring a 'unique touch' and 'fresh new Cajun Soul' to the site. Delivering on that promise, Temper and Brown has now launched its Reggae Roasts on Sundays.

Roifield and Cajun Soul, the team behind the pub's new vibrant menu, have revealed their 'twist on a Caribbean roast dinner', served against a backdrop of reggae beats. Embracing his Jamaican heritage, Roifield says the new Sunday dinner, an important meal for many in the Caribbean community, will create a 'fun and relaxed experience' for guests.

He said: "Sundays are a time for family, great food and of course, reggae music. The mouth-watering menu blends vibrant Cajun flavours with beloved British culinary traditions. The soulful soundtrack is a staple of Sunday gatherings, adding rhythm and warmth to the dining experience.

"We hope guests will enjoy the reggae, drink some rum, savour delicious food and connect with fellow community members in our vibrant social atmosphere."

A selection of three Reggae Roasts is available, all priced at £17. Diners can choose from roast chicken, pulled brisket or vegetarian halloumi, each served with fried plantain, rice and a fresh salad.
