BBC Strictly Come Dancing pro injured as she breaks bone during rehearsals

by · Birmingham Live

Strictly Come Dancing has been plunged into another injury crisis as Nadiya Bychkova suffered a broken bone during rehearsals. The 35 year old Ukrainian professional dancer fell while practicing for a group routine and landed on her hand on Wednesday.

Immediate medical attention was provided by the on-site medics. But an X-ray confirmed she had suffered a fracture. The star has been advised to take some rest.

But according to sources, Nadiya is adamant she will appear on the show this weekend. Nadiya is set to feature in balcony scenes tomorrow night and has been given the green light to continue filming a group dance scheduled for later in the series.

A source revealed last night: "Nadiya was training with the other pros when she fell. Her thumb essentially snapped and it appeared extremely painful.

"Everyone gathered around her. Nadiya's thumb was severely swollen and bruised, but she doesn't want to disappoint anyone and is determined she can perform the pre-recorded number."

They added that the star would be present for the live show on Saturday night. It comes after pro Amy Dowden has been replaced for Icons week on the BBC show after she fell ill following last week's live show.

The Strictly star, who recently got the all-clear from breast cancer, collapsed backstage after dancing with JB Gill. It has been confirmed she will be replaced by Lauren Oakley for Icons week.

"A doctor eventually gave her the all-clear and she will be able to film, but might be handled with care by fellow pros."

"Nadiya will also be present on Saturday for the live show - she's insistent that the show must quite literally go on."

Meanwhile, professional dancer Amy Dowden, who took time off last year for breast cancer treatment, will be absent this week after falling ill backstage.
