Liam Payne's ex Cheryl was reportedly consumed by worry for her ex-partner Liam Payne's well-being months prior to his untimely death in Buenos Aires. Liam, the 31 year old former One Direction star, met a tragic end after falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel while in Argentina for his friend Niall Horan's tour.

Sources close to Cheryl claim that she had been "really worried" about Liam's health months before the incident. In August of the previous year, Liam was forced to cancel his tour and take a break from performing after being rushed to the hospital with a severe kidney infection.

A source claiming to be close to the Girls Aloud star revealed to the Mirror at the time: "Cheryl is really worried about Liam. As soon as she heard he was in hospital, she feared the worst.

"She's really protective of him and is worried no one is actually looking out for him."

Liam had previously spoken about his struggles with fame, admitting to turning to substance abuse as a coping mechanism, which led to panic attacks and exhaustion. He had also spent time in a US wellness clinic after hitting "hit rock bottom".

Additionally, Liam had spoken about a mysterious respiratory illness that left him debilitated in 2021. Liam and Cheryl began their relationship while she was going through a divorce from her second husband, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.

The couple welcomed their son Bear into the world on March 22, 2017. However, they parted ways a year later due to the pressure Liam's solo career and constant travelling put on their relationship.

The 'Strip That Down' singer announced the news on X, formerly Twitter, and confirmed they would continue to co-parent their son. He wrote: "Cheryl and I are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It's been a tough decision for us to make.

"We still have so much love for each other as a family."
