TFT’s new event is an Arcane inspired fiesta that brings back its best mode
To celebrate the launch of Arcane season 2, Riot unveils TFT Set 13 Into the Arcane, and it brings back the autobattler's best mode.
by Lauren Bergin · PCGamesNArcane Season 2 is almost here. We’ve been waiting for it since 2021, champing at the bit to see what happens to Piltover as Jinx’s Super Mega Death Rocket crashes into the council’s chambers. Does Mel survive? Does Yasuo arrive and Wind Wall it at the last second and save the world? While that latter one is never going to happen in the series, Teamfight Tactics: Into the Arcane promises to let me live out my bizarre, memey fan fiction, and I can’t wait.
Unveiled during the finale of League of Legends Worlds, TFT Set 13 (or Teamfight Tactics: Into the Arcane) centers around our fractured sisters and their mentor, Vander. Last we saw him, he was presumed dead, but with veins full of Shimmer and a thirst for vengeance, it seems like perhaps that isn’t quite the case.
They’re joined by new League of Legends champion and season two’s poster mommy (sorry not sorry) Ambessa, who will be added to the auto battler‘s ever-expanding lineup. There are Arcane-themed cosmetics, along with various new traits and mechanics inspired by the hit TV show, and we’ll no doubt see some additional set units as the season progresses.
Going by the poster alone, I suspect that we’ll see Silco’s infamous right-hand Sevika join the fray, the mysterious Yordle Chem-Baron with the snazzy top hat and chemtech arms, then three of Piltover’s Enforcers. Eagle-eyed fans will recognize the character with the riot shield from the clip of Vi pit fighting, the blond woman as former Enforcer Marcus’ daughter, and the baton-wielder also appears in a couple of images flanking Caitlyn (who, let’s be honest, will probably appear as well).
All of that is pretty damn cool, but the highlight, for me, is the return of Tocker’s Trials, which will make a return during the set’s first patch. Having made its debut earlier this year, Tocker’s Trials is TFT’s first-ever PvE mode, with its first iteration sporting over 30 rounds and six bosses.
This time around, it’s designed to be somewhat of a training tool for newer players, so we may see those numbers change around a little, and I suspect that you’ll get more than three lives to help balance out the difficulty.
Tocker’s Trials was only available for two patches as part of Magic n’ Mayhem, so it’s exciting to see it make a reappearance (even if it is just for a limited time again). As someone that’s not fantastic at TFT but loves the strategy side of it, I really enjoyed the PvE aspect of it, and I think a lot of new players will, too.
Teamfight Tactics: Into the Arcane (or, alternatively, TFT Set 13) will launch on Wednesday, November 20. A full reveal will take place during the grand finale of Magic n’ Mayhem Tactician’s Crown on Sunday November 10, so make sure you tune in for all of the details.
