Olivia Munn is getting candid about the timeline of her and John Mulaney's romance.

After the pair met in 2013 at Seth Meyers' wedding, Munn, 44, and Mulaney, 42, reconnected in early 2021. At the time, Mulaney had completed rehab and was looking for a place to live in New York, which led Munn to refer him to a friend. (Mulaney, who had been sober since 2005, checked himself into rehab in 2020 for alcoholism and cocaine addiction.)

Munn's relationship with Mulaney was "brief," GQ wrote in a profile of the comedian on Tuesday, November 12. The outlet reported that the idea of Munn and Mulaney dating was "never true" - instead, they were having a baby.

"It wasn't anything close to ‘dating,'" Munn told the outlet. "I barely knew him."

When Munn told Mulaney she was pregnant, he was enthusiastic about having a child. "It wasn't necessarily, ‘We're going to be married and live together' or any of that, but it was, ‘I will be involved in some way,'" Munn, who thought the pair would simply coparent, said.

During Munn's pregnancy with the couple's first child, the actress lived in Los Angeles while Mulaney was in New York. The pair would speak every few weeks or he would travel to see her. Two months before their son was born, Munn and Mulaney decided to try raising their future child as a couple.
