by · Wales Online

Ellis is set to make its debut on Channel 5, with the hard-hitting police drama centring on DCI Ellis, portrayed by Sharon D Clarke, who takes charge of faltering investigations.

Starring alongside her is Andrew Gower, assuming the role of DS Harper, her trusted deputy, in this three-part series. The official blurb reveals: "As a black female cop, Ellis is used to being dismissed and overlooked, but she is a first-class murder detective, with a determination for justice and a deep well of compassion for those who need it."

The production, featuring full-length episodes, concluded filming in May, as marked by Gower's Instagram announcement: "That's a wrap on Ellis."

He shared his experience, saying: "What a joy to film with the legend that is @sharondclarkeofficial these past four months in beautiful Belfast. Huge thanks to our amazing cast and crew."

The drama was shot across various stunning locales in Northern Ireland and The Peak District, with Clarke praising the chosen spots as "stunning", reports the Mirror.

Showcased in the final episode is Shanes Castle Estate in Antrim, boasting 800 acres of farmland and 1,000 acres of forest land.

This sprawling estate also operates as an agricultural setting with dairy cattle and sheep and hosts a paintball facility as well as a designated area for weddings.

It is widely held that the present-day ruins took the place of an older fortress constructed during the 16th century, which was initially known as Edenduffcarrick.

Clarke, alongside fellow cast members, expressed their awe at the landscape as they ambled through the woods to reach the riverbank.

Additionally, Episode two includes sequences filmed within a horse-filled meadow on Clandeboye Estate in Bangor.

The estate remains one of the rare private estates in Northern Ireland that is still under the ownership of the original family.

Spanning more than 2,000 acres, the estate features exquisite private gardens, a chapel, and magnificent function rooms ideal for weddings.

Despite the persistent rain, Clarke found the rural setting a delightful contrast to city life, calling it "absolutely beautiful".

Ellis airs on Channel 5 on Thursday at 8pm
