Strictly Come Dancing fans rallied behind Pete Wicks during Sunday evening's results episode following his heartfelt admission.

On Saturday's show, 36-year-old Pete and his professional partner Jowita Przystal found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard with a total of 22 points for their Salsa routine to Queen's Another One Bites The Dust.

Upon completion of their performance, the pair were seen embracing as Pete, donning a Freddie Mercury costume in tribute to the legendary singer, was heard repeatedly muttering "sorry" as partner Jowita attempted to console him.

Following the judges' feedback, which did point out some mistakes, Pete admitted to host Claudia Winkleman his feelings regarding their rendition of the iconic track, remarking: "It was an definitely an honour, I think it's an ironic song for me tonight, another one bites the dust."

However, despite being bottom of the leaderboard, Sunday's public vote saw Pete and Jowita escape elimination as they were saved by viewers.

Chatting to Claudia post results, Pete disclosed emotionally: "I can't believe I'm still here and part of me feels like I probably don't deserve to be here!"

Claudia swiftly disputed this claim, exclaiming: "No, no, no, no!" to this, Pete responded with heartfelt gratitude: "Thank you, genuinely, thank you everyone. I am so happy to still be here!", reports the Mirror.

Strictly fans flocked to Twitter, now X, rallying behind Pete as one account wrote: "Pete is such a sweetheart thinking that he doesn't deserve to stay on the show. He absolutely does. #Strictly".

Meanwhile, another fan expressed their support with: "I don't deserve to be here. Ohhh Pete you are popular and your personality shines through your dancing #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly" accompanied by crying emojis while yet another commenter noted: "You can tell that Pete loves this show now #Strictly."

It comes as Strictly Come Dancing's Sam Quek and Nikita Kuzmin became the sixth duo to be eliminated from the hit BBC One dance show on Sunday night.

During the results show, Sam, 36, and Nikita, 26, found themselves in the dreaded dance-off against Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe.

The remaining nine couples will take to the dancefloor next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 9 November at 6.35pm with the Remembrance Sunday results show on Sunday 10 November at 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Both of this weekend’s episodes are available to watch now via BBC iPlayer.
