Disney+ has delighted fans by dropping a trailer for the eagerly awaited second season of Goosebumps, packed with fresh nods to the spine-chilling R. L Stine book series.

Drawing inspiration from the best-selling horror novels, Goosebumps made its debut in October 2023. The plot revolves around five teenagers who inadvertently unleash a supernatural entity into their hometown and are tasked with forcing it back into captivity.

Their adventure uncovers dark secrets about their parents' past. Despite mixed reviews, the ten-episode series managed to secure a positive 74% critics rating and 69% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

After its release, Disney confirmed that the mystery drama would be back with a fresh cast and storyline. Friends star David Schwimmer takes the lead as Anthony, a former botany professor and divorced father.

The new chapter, titled Goosebumps: The Vanishing, centres on twin siblings (portrayed by Sam McCarthy and Jayden Bartels). They visit their father for the summer and stumble upon "a threat stirring, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery."

The series synopsis further reveals: "As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994."

Launched on October 20, the official trailer has already racked up 3.6 million views on YouTube. Keen-eyed fans have identified the books that have inspired this season, reports the Mirror.

Stay Out of the Basement

In the new trailer, Schwimmer's character can be heard laying down the law to his children, saying: "I have one rule, stay out of the basement."

This line is a direct nod to the 1992 book Stay Out of the Basement, a tale of a botanist father whose experiments in his basement start to raise alarms with his kids after they see him bleeding and hear his stern warning, sparking their curiosity and leading them into a dangerous investigation.

The Blob That Ate Everyone

The trailer features a monster that will bring echoes of Stein's 1997 book The Blob That Ate Everyone back for fans.

In this supernatural thriller, a budding horror author named Zackie Beauchamp gets more than inspiration when he finds an old typewriter that turns what he writes into terrifying reality.

Monster Blood

Eagle-eyed enthusiasts also caught a resemblance between the monster seen in the teaser and the Monster Blood entity.

Echoing the events from the 1992 novel, the story centres around Evan, who finds himself dealing with a growing, uncontrollable blob after purchasing a strange can of monster blood at an old toy shop.

The Haunted Car

A particular scene in the promo clips shows a car spiralling out of control, as someone cries out: "I'm not controlling the car." This seems to directly reference the 1999 novel The Haunted Car, following the journey of a young car lover who buys a vehicle that appears to possess its own will.

Viewers have been quick to express their excitement for the upcoming season, with one fan commenting on the trailer: "Thank you for meeting the OG Goosebumps fans as adults."

Another added their praise, saying: "Now THIS is what I call Goosebumps. I love it that so many different books are referenced in [this].

"Goosebumps is finally getting the spotlight it deserves in this era. I hope these newer horror fans love Goosebumps as much as we 90s kids do. Viewer Beware! You're in for such a SCARE!".

A third fan expressed their anticipation: "This is the moment we have all been waiting for."

Goosebumps: The Vanishing premieres on Disney+ on January 10, 2025
