Jaw-dropping Halloween house wrapped in cobwebs and spiders with tentacles coming out the windows
by Branwen Jones · Wales OnlineHalloween is fast approaching and many of us will be making a last-minute dash to get some pumpkins, sweets and other spooky decorations before the big day. But for one man in Cardiff, the preparation has been bigger and taken longer.
Every year, Danny Hargreaves and his family showcase an absolutely spectacularly spooky display outside their house. Mr Hargreaves is the founder of Real SFX, the company behind the explosions, bullets and other special effects on Doctor Who, Peaky Blinders, His Dark Materials and more - and has put his knowledge to use when preparing his house for Halloween.
He and his family - including his wife Carmela, co-director of the SFX company - have been setting the bar for years with their decorations, which is all done for a worthy cause. In October 2020, the family installed dozens of spiders and webs to raise money for charity. And in December of that year, the family recreatred some iconic Christmas films in their front garden including Die Hard and Gremlins.
And this year is no different as the house on Cardiff Road in Llandaff is already taking shape for Halloween with all kinds of decorations, including inflatable tentacles coming out of windows, as well as cobwebs and skeletons in the garden. It already looks incredible, despite not quite being finished yet. This year, Danny and his family are raising money for Dreams and Wishes, which is a charity that supports seriously ill children and their families.
Our photographer decided to take a look at what was in store this time round. Here are some of the best pictures from the spooktacular Cardiff house.
