Carol Vorderman shares candid love life update after opening up on 'special friends'
by Michael Moran · Wales OnlineCarol Vorderman, twice married and divorced by the age of 40, has given a five-word update on her love live.
The former Countdown presenter has firmly stated, much to the dismay of friends, that she is against marriage. She told Saga Magazine: "No, I don't want that," adding that she occasionally sees a few men she's known for years.
Despite this, even those closest to her find it hard to believe she's content in her solitude. "Even my closest friends will still say to me, 'What about so and so? '," she revealed.
At 63, Carol is comfortable with herself and enjoys the liberty of being single, stating: "If I want to go on a cruise on the fjords I'll happily go on my own - I don't feel I need to have a partner."
She expressed her satisfaction with her life and her own company, saying: "I'm happy with my life, happy with my own company," and "I'm looking forward to what is coming next."
While she does occasionally date, it's "not as often as people probably think".
Instead, she maintains a casual group of "friends with benefits" for companionship when needed. Speaking to ITV's This Morning in 2022, she said: "Our mothers told us that we should marry when we were still 18 or 19 or 20, so we grew up with that convention that you should find one partner for life. My view is not quite like that."
She added: "Half of first marriages end in divorce, and nearly three quarters of second marriages end in divorce. So I prefer to live my life in chapters."
"I have ignored the looking for one person and I have a number of what I've called 'special friends'.
"They don't know each other, but they know about it. It's a very honest relationship," she said.
Emphasising on the success of her open romantic life, she notes one particular connection has lasted longer than her marriages – over a decade.
Additionally, Carol mentions a 'special friend' so far-flung he's off-planet: "He's an astronaut," she shares. "He rang me from the space station."
