Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans reveals 'embarrassing' wake-up call before losing 7 stone

Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has revealed an 'embarrassing' wake-up call on a camping trip is behind his astonishing seven stone weight loss.

The opera singer, who is most famous for starring in the Go.Compare adverts, embarked on his impressive weight loss journey before signing up to compete on the BBC dancing reality show.

The 52-year-old told the Sorted Food YouTube channel that it was an unfortunate incident on a camping trip that kickstarted his desire to shift the weight.

He said: "I think - this is so embarrassing right, and I've never told anyone this - I went camping, and I sat on a chair, and it just smashed underneath me.

"So, I thought I'd sit on that chair, and that smashed as well and I thought: 'This has to come to an end because I'm smashing chairs left right and centre."

Wynne, who is dancing with Katya Jones on Strictly again tonight (Saturday, October 26) at 6.25pm on BBC One, revealed he has made a number of changes to his diet after the camping wake-up call.

He said he ditched burgers, bread and cheese, while also cutting down on his alcohol intake.

Wynne told the podcast: "A year ago, I was 23 stone. I've lost seven stone in the last year.

"So I had to kind of give up the bread and the burgers and the cheese. I love cheese. I could eat a cheese sandwich while I'm cooking.

"I just started walking a lot, I cut out the cheese. Under 2,000 calories a day. Drinking a bit less, trying to get everything under control really."

Wynne and Katya found themselves at the centre of the latest Strictly controversy a couple of weeks ago.

Earlier this month, Katya was seen moving Wynne hand away from her midriff, prompting viewers to claim the opera singer had made his professional partner 'uncomfortable'.

Katya, 35, insisted she was not offended as the pair defended their 'joke gone wrong'.

Wynne pledged to continue making people laugh although the pair won't repeat their joke that backfired badly.

He told the Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain awards: We want to be fun for all the family. We want to bring a bit of slapstick comedy, and fun for the kids. This week we’re doing the salsa and I promise it will be fun.”
