Liam Payne's final 'erratic' hours that saw laptop smashed and frantic hotel call

One Direction star Liam Payne has died at the age of 31 after falling from the third floor of an Argentinian hotel

The world was left in shock on Wednesday following the sudden and tragic death of One Direction star, Liam Payne. The singer, aged 31, died after falling from the third floor of an Argentinian hotel, Casa Sur Palmero.

It was reported that Liam had been behaving erratically and needed to be escorted back to his hotel room prior to the fatal fall. Subsequent reports suggest that the father-of-one had been acting 'erratically' in the hours leading up to his death.

Hotel staff reported "an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol". Local media reports indicated that Liam had been seen "acting erratically in the hotel lobby and smashed his laptop' before he 'had to be carried back to his room."

Tragically, shortly after this call, workers reported hearing a loud noise in the courtyard. Liam's body was discovered just after 5pm. Audio related to the case, obtained from the Buenos Aires security ministry, captured a call from a worker requesting help with an intoxicated guest.

The worker can be heard saying: "When he is conscious he is destroying the entire room and we need you to send someone" in audio obtained by The Mail Online.

Alberto Crescenti, director of emergency medical services, spoke to local news outlet Clarin following Liam's death. He stated: "We verified his identity using the passport he had," before adding: "The team saw that he apparently had a fracture at the base of the skull."

Argentine police released a statement confirming the news: "Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo."

Liam had previously explained on social media why he was visiting the country, stating: " "We're going to Argentina. One, because we have to, and two, because we want to, and three, because Niall Horan's playing down there and I think we might just go and say 'Hello'.

"It's been a while since me and Niall have spoken. We've got a lot to talk about and I would like to square up a couple things with the boy. No bad vibes or nothing like that, but just, we need to talk."

He had been in Argentina with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, and just hours before the incident, the singer had shared images with his fans on Snapchat, showing him sharing food and discussing plans to play polo. He also filmed his girlfriend Kate as they had breakfast together, saying in the clip: "This is the breakfast table, just enjoying breakfast and coffee even though it's 1pm."

He revealed they had been staying at a friend's home, with Kate joking in the background that they are "losers" for sleeping in. After hearing about his tragic passing, tributes poured in from all corners of the globe, including those from Liam's celebrity pals.

X Factor host Dermot O'Leary was among those who honoured his memory, posting a poignant black and white photo of the two together and writing: "The worst news. I remember him as a 14 year old turning up to audition on The X Factor, and blowing us away singing Sinatra. He just loved to sing."

Dermot admired Liam for his amiable and grounded nature, noting: "He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble. Sending love and prayers to his family.
