BBC Countryfile viewers issue the same complaint over 'boring' episode

by · Wales Online

BBC Countryfile viewers were less than thrilled with the show's latest offering, sharing their grievances on social media soon after the episode aired.

In the recent programme, presenters Matt Baker and Charlotte Smith explored a Cambridgeshire farm where forward-thinking farmer David Mwanaka cultivates an impressive 485 acres of native Zimbabwean crops, including white maize.

The episode also featured segments on a community farm producing uncommon varieties like oca and quinoa alongside Adam Henson, who was helping with a tea harvest in Cornwall.

But it wasn't long into the broadcast before fans expressed their discontent online, with some branding the episode as "boring."

A disgruntled viewer posted: " Boring #countryfile today," reports the Express.

Another went on to critique: "This first story is really terribly done - nothing but a never-ending pointless interview- no one does anything except drive to nowhere, apparently."

While critiquing the maize feature, one said: "Just what you want at a crucial time for the harvest .... Matt Baker, in a flat cap, asking inane questions #countryfile."

"I can't believe what I'm watching on @BBCCountryfile tonight. maize and specialty Cornish-grown tea-our farmers must be spitting feathers," another watcher vented in frustration.

Additionally, there was a call from a viewer for the showrunners to consider different content: "I'd have preferred a more general Harvest edition, like sort of news about many more farms and crops, #CountryFile."

Despite diverse views, one enthusiast was clearly delighted, tweeting: "@BBCCountryfile Teabot in Cornwall. Fantastic, love it. I definitely want to buy some and drink some good real tea. Does that estate do tea tastings?"

There was even a moment when Matt interrupted the show to mention the Countryfile calendar. Explaining the essence of a successful family farm enterprise, he hinted: "I think we are fast realising that the key to a farming enterprise like this, especially where family is concerned, is one thing."

Eager for more information, Charlotte urged: "Go on," leading Matt to tease: "Yes, and there is one thing missing from around here."

He couldn't hide his amusement as he teased: "Do you know where I am going with this? " When Charlotte realised what he was referring to, Matt couldn't help but smile and reveal, "Look at this. This is what they need; it's the Countryfile calendar."

Countryfile is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
