‘The Wild Robot’ Wins SCAD Savannah Film Festival Audience Award

“The Wild Robot” has won SCAD Savannah Film Festival‘s Audience Award.

In attendance at the film’s screening were writer-director Chris Sanders, star Lupita Nyong’o and composer Kris Bowers. The former two were both recognized with the Icon of Animation Award and Virtuoso Award.

A total of 162 films were screened at the festival this year, which included 123 narrative films, 31 documentary features, 69 shorts, ten world premieres and six U.S. premieres.

From a pool of more than 2,335 submissions, nineteen awards were featured from the 105 films selected for competition categories, which included Narrative Features, Documentary Features, Animated Shorts and more.

Additional winners included, “The Wedding Veil of the Proud Princess,” directed by Anna-Ester Volozh, won Best Animated Short while director Ben Sturgulewski’s “Champions Of The Golden Valley” took home the Best Documentary Feature prize and “Los Frikis,” from directors Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson, earned the award for Best Narrative Feature.

The Narrative Feature category was sponsored by Letterboxd, which has given “Los Frikis” a grant through a media campaign, targeted advertising and direct marketing for the film. 

The festival’s professional jury was comprised of IndieWire Editorial Director Kate Erbland, Letterboxd Head of Studio Relations & Video Brian Formo, filmmaker Zeberiah Newman and Richard Suckle.

In the student competition, “El Alma de la Sed,” directed by SCAD’s very own Colleen Ryan, won Best Narrative Student Short. Oscar Bittner of Filmakademie Baden Württemberg was recognized with the Best Student Animated Short honor for his short film “High Diver.”

The Global Shorts Forum awarded Antonina Kerguelen Roman’s “¡salsa!” with the Best Latin Lens award, Loïc Espuche’s “Yuck!” with the Best Visions de France award and Julien Guetta’s “Little Queen” with the Best Global Short award.

SCAD also presented the Outstanding Achievement in Cinema Award to Amy Adams, the Next Gen Award to Marisa Abela, the Marquee Award to Pamela Anderson, the Legend of Entertainment Award to Jerry Bruckheimer, the Virtuoso Award to Kieran Culkin, the Spotlight Award to Colman Domingo, the Spotlight in Television Award to Kathryn Hahn and more.
