Joan Vassos Reveals She Had a No-Sex Rule on ‘The Golden Bachelorette’
· CosmopolitanAs part one of The Golden Bachelorette’s season finale hits our screens tonight, Joan Vassos is getting candid about a specific rule she implemented. The first-ever Golden Bachelorette appeared on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine podcast, where she revealed she didn’t allow beds during solo dates.
“It’s just who I am,” Joan shared. “I don’t judge anybody else for doing it. What’s good for them is fine. But it didn’t feel good to me.” The school administrator explained, “I was not gonna have the physical element in it,” adding, “I certainly saw the need of having the off-camera time with people.”
As for how she broke the news to her 24 contestants? “I just said, ‘I don’t want any beds in the room.’ And I said to the men that we’re not doing the physical part of it. I’m sorry.”
Kaitlyn then doubled down, asking Joan if any beds were in the room during solo dates. “So you’re just gonna sleep on the couch?” she responded.

“We’re leaving before sleeping happens,” Joan said, clarifying that she and her dates would just sit on the couch and talk. “It’s also maybe a little uncomfortable waking up with somebody in the morning that, like, you haven’t had that much time with.”
“Sleeping in the bed with them. That all felt a little uncomfortable to me,” Joan added. “Also, I like the idea that if I chose somebody at the end, that he wouldn’t have to think of me having slept with the other guys.”
When she put the no-sex rule in place, the Golden Bach also considered her children’s experience watching the show. “My kids were mortified of the thought of doing a fantasy suite,” she said. “They even think the name is disgusting...They’re like, ‘Oh my god. That’s so gross to even think about that with you...Then we’ve all put some thoughts into viewers’ heads of what that looks like.”
“So, not just to respect them, but I didn’t feel comfortable having a physical relationship with more than one person,” Joan concluded.
