Cassie 'very hopeful' for 'justice' as ex P. Diddy arrested for string of abhorrent crimes

Cassie took legal action against P. Diddy, real name Sean Combs, for physical and sexual abuse in 2023 - prompting other women to step forward to accuse him of serious crimes

Cassie had been 'very hopeful that justice would' catch up with her abusive ex, P Diddy.

The 38-year-old singer was in a relationship with Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, from 2007 until 2018. In 2023, however, Cassie made headlines by claiming Combs had been physically and sexually abusive to her during their time together. The Me & U singer launched a lawsuit against the 54-year-old musician in which she accused him of subjecting her to a "cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking."

The case was settled a day later with the pair reaching an agreement - however, in May this year, shocking footage emerged via CNN showing Combs grabbing, shoving and kicking Cassie during an argument in 2016. Combs ultimately acknowledged his behaviour in the video and said: “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”

Since Cassie first launched legal proceedings against her ex, a string of other women have stepped forward to accuse him of abuse and sex trafficking. This week Combs was arrested in New York and charged with three counts including racketeering and sex trafficking. It is reported that Cassie - who married fitness model Alex Fine in 2019 and shares two children with him - has been following Combs downfall.

A source told People: "The amount of courage it took Cassie to speak out, and be one of the first to speak out, can’t be underscored enough. It was terrifying in a very real way. There have been so many people protecting Diddy for so long and it’s not an exaggeration to say her life was in danger through all this."

The source added: "It’s been really, really hard for her, and for Alex as well, but he has been the biggest support. She was very hopeful that justice would come.” The Mirror has contacted representatives of both Cassie and Combs for comment.

After the footage of the 2016 physical attack by Combs was shared by news outlets, Cassie spoke out about her ordeal. She said: “The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe now. But this is only the beginning.

"Domestic Violence is THE issue. It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from the past. This healing journey is never ending, but this support means everything to me. Thank you."

Following his arrest on Monday, Combs was charged with a string of crimes. On Tuesday, he plead not guilty and reportedly made an offer to pay $50 million for bail. American prosecutors, however, have been reluctant to agree to bail - with TMZ reporting U.S Attorney Damian Williams considered the rap star a flight risk.
