Speaking to PEOPLE, the fan named Noelia explained who they ran into the star by chance and took photos together. "He talked to us, hugged us, and even made jokes," they revealed. They added he had seemed to be enjoying himself at Niall's concert and claimed there was "nothing strange or unusual about his behaviour".

However, after meeting him again at a hotel with other fans, they claimed the star had been "asked to leave" as the constant crowds gathering were "bothering other guests".

After going to another location, thought to have been a friend's, Noelia says he would still stop and take photos with fans waiting outside. They claimed Liam was "was always open to it, full of love".

Following his tragic death, Liam's band mates, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles released a joint statement expressing their sadness. Posting the comment on Instagram, it read: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.

"The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."

A number of follow-up personal statements followed by the bandmates, including one from Louis in which he made a vow to Liam's son, Bear. In his emotional post, Louis said: "I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the Uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was. I wish I got chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you."

He also revealed he thought Liam was "the most vital part of One Direction" and admitted the pair had discussed making new music together in the future.
