Johnny Depp's former lawyer Camille Vasquez responded to the dating rumours about the two from the infamous trial against Amber Heard in 2022
by Zara Woodcock · The MirrorJohnny Depp's former lawyer Camille Vasquez set the record straight after rumours swirled about her having a potential romance with the actor.
The case between Johnny and his ex-wife Amber Heard had centred on her op-ed for the Washington Post about domestic violence from 2018, which he argued had implied that he had abused her and it was claimed that the article had impacted his ability to work. The jury found in his favour and awarded him $15 million (around £12 million) in damages.
This was reduced to around $10 million (around £8 million) due to a cap in Virginia. Jurors also found in favour of one of Amber's counterclaims in the highly-publicised trial, which related to remarks made about her. She was awarded $2 million (around £1.5 million) in damages..
During the trial, many speculated about Johnny and his lawyer's relationship and, a year later, Camille revealed she kept in contact with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor. Two. years on, Camille set the record straight once and for all and said she would 'never date' him.
"I would never," she told Extra on Friday. "Let me just go on the record here. Never dated Johnny Depp. Never would date Johnny Depp. I think he’s a lovely person… He’s not my type." She went on to discuss her first few encounters with Johnny where she noticed their different perspectives.
"I remember maybe after 30 [or] 40 minutes of speaking with him, I remember having an out-of-body experience and looking at him and thinking, 'He views the world so differently than I do'. Like, he definitely uses a different part of his brain, he’s such an artist."
Last year, she chatted to People magazine about keeping in contact with the actor. She said at the time: "The last time I spoke to [him] on the phone was probably a few months ago, but we text often. There's a group of us that texts with him and we send emails, obviously congratulating him on the success that he's had in the last year."
Camille added that she hoped to attend one of his concerts with some of her colleagues. She told the publication that she was "so proud" of the work that the legal team did together as part of the trial and she praised her "tremendous" colleagues, including associates for all their hard work.
