by Gemma Strong · The MirrorQueen Camilla is a woman of many talents - but in a candid admission she revealed the one thing she is 'completely hopeless' at.
King Charles's wife was speaking on her hit podcast series, The Queen's Reading Room, which was formed from Her Majesty's book club, launched in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic to help champion literature. Asked in the first episode which books she most enjoyed reading to her grandchildren, avid reader Camilla replied: "I think the one I enjoyed reading more than anything else was Harry Potter … all the stories. I can't mimic voices for love or money. I'm completely hopeless at it. I was a really bad actor at school and I've never been able to master the art of mimicry."
But it's a completely different story when it comes to King Charles: "But my husband, he does it brilliantly, he can do all the voices." It's not the first time Camilla has spoken about the King's ability to charm the younger family members. She previously shared Charles' hidden talent in a documentary to celebrate his 70th birthday in 2018. "He will get down on his knees and crawl about with them for hours, you know, making funny noises and laughing and my grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him," she said in Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70. "He reads Harry Potter and he can do all the different voices, and I think children really appreciate that."
Charles and Camilla are known to have an incredibly close bond, and those closest to them lifted the lid on their relationship in a BBC documentary following the Coronation. The Queen's sister, Annabel Elliot said the couple are 'yin and yang' but together make an utterly formidable team, while Camilla's close friend, Lady Lansdowne, said the fact that the couple had to 'fight' to be together has only strengthened their unshakeable 'bond'.
Princess Anne also spoke publicly for the first time about the King and Queen's long relationship - and gave Camilla her seal of approval. 'I've known her a long time off and on," Anne said. "Her understanding of the role and how much difference it makes to the King has been absolutely outstanding. This role is not something that she'd be a natural for but she does it really well. She provides that change of speed and tone, that's equally important.'
The Princess Royal also noted that Queen Camilla is "equally modern," later referencing Charles's forward-looking approach to the royal family and his duties as a king. Speaking of Charles' succession specifically, Anne went on to say, "To be honest I'm not sure that anybody can really prepare themselves for that kind of change… not easily. And then the change happens and you go 'Okay, I now have to get on with it'." Charles was the oldest person to ever accede to the British throne, crowned just before his 74th birthday after being the longest-serving heir apparent. "Monarchy is a 365 days a year occupation, it doesn’t stop because you change monarchs, for whatever reason," his sister added.
