British actress Kate Beckinsale has shared a number of concerning snaps of her bruised body.

The mum-of-one, 51, has been candid about her health battles over recent years. Taking to her Instagram Stories on Saturday, the Van Helsing actress posted close up shots of her bruised elbow, inflamed-looking fingers and a snap of some sore looking marks on her torso.

The actress offered no captions on her Stories but did posted an unrelated post on her main grid. "Why are you all bruised up," one fan asked Kate as they commented underneath the screenshot of a review of the star's latest movie. "Shopping for tampons and talking about boys," Kate replied.

Earlier this year, Kate issued an explanation for her recent weight loss after being targeted by cruel trolls making derogatory comments about her body and offering her unsolicited health advice. The actress revealed on social media that the death of her stepfather, Roy Battersby, earlier in the year had sparked the weightloss.

In July, one troll on Instagram asked where her "a**" had gone and suggested she do squats, while another claimed her body had "shrank" and her "head keeps growing". However, Kate fired back at the trolls with a witty response, saying: "The LOL of your bio picture being an actual gnome living its best life in the forest has given me so much life. I can't tell you please go gather some more nuts and berries."

The Serendipity actress then shared a new video on her Instagram grid, posing in a tiny crop top, pink knickers, and knee-high leather biker boots, showing off her confidence and carefree attitude. In the video, she said: "Some, not all, of my followers, can get them really upset that they don't feel I'm doing enough age-appropriate things, so I thought I'd let them kick off their week with a little stab of joy of me putting on a hair net."

Kate then addressed her followers with a wry observation, striking a sassy pose in the mirror, "For those of you who are going to get off on this," while captioning the post with a less-than-cheerful toast: "Let's have a toast for the douchebags. Let's have a toast for the a**holes. Let's have a toast for the scumbags."

When one fan queried about her wellbeing, noting she appeared thinner, Kate coolly replied, "It's great now thanks." However, in a more charged response to another commenter, she revealed the true toll of her stepfather's death and her mother's stage four cancer diagnosis.

Confessing the stress and grief had a devastating effect, leading to significant weight loss and a six-week hospital stay due to an oesophageal issue caused by excessive vomit from grief, she defiantly retorted, "No, actually, I watched my stepfather die quite shockingly, my mother has stage 4 cancer and I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief... Quite quickly. And then I was in hospital for six weeks because the grief had burned a hole in my oesophagus, which made me vomit copious amounts of blood, and I found eating very hard..."

"And I just worked very very hard on a movie that was actually quite triggering because it also involved the theme of the death of my father so I'm not really concerned about what you think about my a**. Maybe you should worry about your own f***ing a**. I suggest shoving something up it, like a large pineapple or a brick."

Kate's late stepfather Roy had battled two types of cancer and suffered a "massive stroke" an ordeal occurring merely a year after his diagnosis. In other disclosures, Kate had earlier opened up about her mother Judy Loe's cancer treatments at the same facility attended by King Charles, commending the Sovereign for his unknown cancer treatment.
