Jeremy Clarkson has revealed doctors told him he should stop working following his recent heart surgery.

The former Top Gear presenter, 64, required an "urgent" procedure after a "sudden deterioration" in his health. He was fitted with two stents, which improves blood flow to the heart, following his ailments.

Now, the presenter of ITV's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? has revealed his doctor told him he should give up a lot of his current roles, suggesting he should instead replace it with a hobby such as golf. However, he admitted if he didn't work he would just "sit at home all day, rotting".

Jeremy shared his concern about his diet

Writing in the Sun, Jeremy said: "The worst problem though is diet. To cut my alarmingly high levels of cholesterol, I need to cut out, completely, everything I like eating. Bacon, sausages, beef, lamb, pork, butter, chips, proper milk, Cadbury’s fruit and nut bars and the interesting bit in an egg.

"I’ve had a week now to live in the new regime and it’s horrific."

Jeremy previously how he felt "clammy", with a "tightness in my chest", and "pins and needles in my left arm", and having heard news of former Scottish first minister Alex Salmond's fatal heart attack, decided he needed to see his doctor. He said he then went to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford via an ambulance, where they ruled out a heart attack after undergoing an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests and X-rays.

He was then told he required surgery and had a stent fitted within two hours. The device works to prevent future heart attacks by improving the blood flow that goes the heart. Speaking of the surgery, Jeremy previously revealed: "It wasn't especially painful. Just odd," adding that he has thought since: "Crikey, that was close."

Jeremy's co-star on Clarkson's Farm, Kaleb Cooper, recently shared an insight into the presenter's health battle. On Thursday's edition of This Morning, he gave a candid update on Jeremy's health while also discussing their popular show. He told the morning show's hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley: "We were all quite shocked when he came out and talked about the fact that he had to have some heart surgery, because you know he lives his life at a million miles an hour.

"He's got loads of stuff going on at the farm and stuff... I mean I was there with him when it happened and all I can say is he's definitely a fighter. He's a strong man."
