While dressed much more demurely last month, the GC discovered she could be related to notorious killer, Jack the Ripper. Fans were reduced fans to tears after she appeared on the popular BBC show Who Do You Think You Are, in which celebrities trace their family tree.

The plucky reality TV star knew quite a lot about her dad’s side of the family, but nothing about her mum’s - beyond the fact her mum Joan was fostered as a baby. It’s a subject they’ve always found difficult to talk about, but for the first time, Joan agrees to share with Gemma what she knows.

Discussing the emotional moment, Gemma shared: "It was very overwhelming, very, very bizarre, to find out all this stuff we've not known for so long. It's bittersweet and amazing. It’s been very cathartic putting my mum’s mind at rest about so much stuff that was unanswered for her."

Elsewhere in the episode, there was a startling revelation about her link to infamous serial killer, Jack The Ripper. Experts on the show revealed her great-great-great grandfather, William Williams, lived on Dorset Street in East London with his wife and three children - the same street where Ripper victim Annie Chapman lived prior to her murder 1888 and where the body of Mary Jane Kelly was found two months later.

Gemma's family were recorded as living there in 1900, prompting speculation she could be related to the killer himself. "No-one knows who the Ripper was, but we lived next door to where a lot of his victims were being killed You just don't know," Gemma mused, adding: "I think I was related to him... It's just bizarre, isn't it? Could it be my family?"
