Where's the UK's most idyllic spot?

A fresh poll by Which? Travel has crowned not one but two stunning locales as the prettiest in Britain.

The survey saw nearly 5,000 Which? members share their thoughts on their jaunts to Areas of Outstanding Beauty across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as Scotland's National Scenic Areas, reports the Express.

Holidaymakers judged these picturesque spots on several factors including tranquillity, wildlife spotting potential, amenities, grub and booze, vistas, digs, and things to do.

So, what are the top picks for a gorgeous UK getaway?

Visitor scores reveal that the Isles of Scilly alongside the Northumberland Coast nab the title for the UK's most breath taking spots.

The Isles of Scilly sit just off Cornwall and hold the title for the tiniest Area of Outstanding Beauty in the UK. Travellers were smitten with its "spectacular scenery" and "beautiful beaches".

Outstandingly beautiful, unspoiled and uncrowded, only five of the Isles of Scilly are inhabited. Each island boasts its own vibe, from St Martin's blooming flower fields to Tresco's exotic gardens.

The Isles are dangerous for ships, with 530 known shipwrecks around the archipelago.

The Scillys are a hit with royalty too, with the Prince and Princess of Wales often opting for breaks there. The little-known royal holiday home of Tamarisk House can be found on St Mary's, the largest of the Isles of Scilly.

The four bedroom property sits on a quarter of land, protected from prying eyes by tamarisk trees.

Northumberland's coastline also bagged top marks for its views, strolls, and sights. It's even home to the nation's top-ranked coastal town. One participant in the survey summed up Northumberland with words like "rugged coastline, castles, villages and wildlife".

Top spots to visit for holidaymakers include Hadrian's Wall, Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle. The region's Alnwick Castle famously featured in the Harry Potter films as Hogwarts and ITV drama Vera is set here too, with its star Brenda Blethyn filming at locations around the county.

Rory Boland, Which? Travel editor, shared his enthusiasm about Britain's natural beauty, saying: "The UK is blessed with a fantastic choice of unspoilt natural landscapes, and this year's survey shines a light on some of the most beautiful locations these isles have to offer."

And he encouraged further exploration, adding: "Whether you want to explore historical sites, spot wildlife in their natural habitats or get active in nature, there's bound to be a unique scenic area on your doorstep just waiting to be explored."
