David Schwimmer stars in spooky trailer for the new Goosebumps series

The Friends actor fronts the second season of Disney Plus' Goosebumps anthology series based on R.L. Stine's horror novels

David Schwimmer stars in the spooky trailer for a new Goosebumps series. The Friends icon will front Goosebumps: The Vanishing, the second instalment of the Disney+ anthology series inspired by R.L. Stine’s beloved horror novels.

Disney+ unveiled the footage from the series at New York Comic Con on Sunday (October 20), which shows Schwimmer unearthing a mysterious entity while examining evidence of his brother’s disappearance 30 years ago. According to the official synopsis, the eight-part series begins when twins Cece and Devin Brewer are sent to spend a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad (Schwimmer).

A threat is stirring, and they quickly realise that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends – find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.

“I want you to have a really fun and also safe summer out here,” Schwimmer says in the trailer. “I only have one rule: stay out of the basement.”

Goosebumps: The Vanishing will premiere January 10 exclusively on Disney+, which fans can join for £4.99 a month for the Standard with Ads plan. Disney+ members can save up to £25.98 by paying for a year up front on the Standard or Premium plan, bagging the equivalent of 12 months for the price of 10.

The Standard plan now costs £89.90, while the Premium plan is £129.90 and also includes higher video quality up to 4K UHD and HDR, plus the ability to stream on four devices simultaneously. A Disney+ membership gives access to hit titles like Rivals, Only Murders in the Building and The Bear, plus countless titles from the Marvel and Star Wars franchises.

Schwimmer stars in the Vanishing as Anthony Brewer, a former botany professor who has immersed himself in science and mystery. The series also stars Ana Ortiz as Jen, Jayden Bartels as Cece, Sam McCarthy as Devin, Elijah M. Cooper as CJ, Galilea La Salvia as Frankie, Francesca Noel as Alex and Stony Blyden as Trey.

The Vanishing marks the second season of the Disney+ Goosebumps reboot, following its 2023 debut starring Justin Long. Stine’s Goosebumps is one of the bestselling book series of all time, with more than 400m books in print in 32 languages, according to Disney.

It spawned a hugely popular TV series that ran for four seasons between 1995 and 1998, as well as two film adaptations starring Jack Black as a fictional version of the author. The upcoming series is inspired by the Goosebumps novel Stay Out of the Basement and has been developed by Detective Pikachu writer-director Rob Letterman, The Muppets writer Nicholas Stoller and Hilary Winston, who serves as showrunner.
