Strictly Come Dancing's Sam Quek's private love life – TV star husband and chance encounter

Olympian Sam Quek is making moves on BBC Strictly Come Dancing but away from the ballroom, she lives a relatively private life - but has opened up about her love life on some occasions

Sam Quek isn't the only celebrity involved in her relationship.

The Olympic medallist is currently competing on Strictly Come Dancing, meaning she is spending time away from her husband and two children. But away from the bright lights and sparkling outfits, Sam's life is extremely different to her current lifestyle. The Wirral-based star remains quite private about her relationships but has opened up on several occasions.

As she and her partner Nikita Kuzmin prepare to dazzle fans during the live show, we take a look at her relationship and how she had a chance encounter with her husband in their teens.

Sam met her husband Tom Mairs at a bar in Liverpool eight years ago. But before their encounter on a night out, Tom was a student at Calday Grange Grammar School on the Wirral. The grammar school for boys allows girls to study at their sixth form, which is where Sam studied for her A-Levels.

However, the pair didn't meet as they were in two different year groups. Sam and Thom tied the knot at Chester Racecourse on August 26, 2018, in front of their nearest and dearest, 14 months after he asked Sam to marry him. Since then, she has gone on to give fans a glimpse into her life with Tom and has shared a string of snaps over the years. One stunning snap saw Sam and Tom posing alongside their two children Molly, three, and son Isaac, two while on a luxury family holiday.

Tom was often seen cheering on Sam during the Rio Summer Olympics in 2016 and was also in Australia, ready to greet her after she competed on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! Speaking about his wife on Extra Camp, he said: "I am unbelievably proud of Sam. The thing about Sam is that she has gone into the jungle with some elements and some problems that the other campmates don’t have.

"She's not used to being on camera all the time and she's not used to mic packs and she's not used to those sort of things so to see her flourishing the way she is and the way she is coming across – she's being so positive." But who is Tom and why has he been on TV before?

Wirral-born Tom is the son of a multi-millionaire entrepreneur but he's now found success in his own right. The businessman who studied at the University of Liverpool was handed a lavish £1 million after graduating. But Tom instantly used his entrepreneurial skills and invested it into his business, Antona Student Properties.

While Sam is a familiar face on TV, Tom has also appeared on Channel 4's The Secret Millionaire in 2010 and became the youngest-ever participant. He also appeared on For What It's Worth with Sam in 2016. The couple previously watched the show with one another over Skype when they were apart.
