With its stunning coastline, vibrant community, and rich heritage, it's no wonder Folkestone was named one of the best places to live by The Sunday Times. Nestled on the English Channel in Kent, this port town boasts cobbled streets, retail wonders, and an impressive collection of contemporary art, appealing to all ages. The publication highlighted how Folkestone's culture-led regeneration isn't just about the artists' studios, cool shops, or the chance to sip cocktails on the restored Harbour Arm. It also boasts top-notch schools, state-of-the-art sports facilities, and high-speed trains to London, reports the Express. Once a fashionable coastal resort during the 19th and mid-20th centuries, Folkestone is situated on the southern edge of the North Downs, nestled between two cliffs.

For those visiting this charming seaside town, there's a wealth of activities to choose from. The bustling High Street and Bouverie Place Shopping Centre are sure to keep shopaholics satisfied. TripAdvisor suggests checking out the Kent Battle of Britain Museum, Lower Leas Coastal Park, local beaches, and art galleries. There's also a plethora of enticing restaurants and bars scattered throughout the town, offering a taste of everything you'd expect from a coastal location.

Best of all, Folkestone's excellent transport links mean you're never far from the action - a quick 55-minute train ride will whisk you off to King's Cross London for an easy trip into Europe. The M20, A20 and A259 are all easily accessible from Folkestone, making travel around the country a breeze. The town's arts scene is thriving, with many renowned artists leaving their mark, including internationally-acclaimed sculptor Anthony Gormley's iconic Iron Men and Cornelia Parker's striking Bronze Mermaid. Interestingly, the mermaid was reportedly cast from a real-life resident of Folkestone, who still resides in the town today. With so much on offer and affordable housing prices, it's no wonder that Folkestone is being hailed as the new, younger, and funkier Brighton.
