Coronation Street fans 'rumble' who caused Joel's death as villain's return 'sealed'

Coronation Street fans think a character who isn't currently onscreen could be making a comeback, and could be the person who killed Joel Deering on the ITV soap

Coronation Street fans are suspecting a former villain on the ITV soap could be Joel Deering's real killer.

Not convinced any of the obvious suspects caused Joel's murder, viewers are now suspecting it's someone not mentioned and someone not everyone will guess. Given the drama surrounding Lauren Bolton and Joel, she clearly has a motive.

But something that happened earlier this year has led to speculation it was someone linked to her and not Lauren herself who is the killer. Cast your minds back to months ago when Lauren was feared dead after a brutal attack.

Poor Roy Cropper found himself arrested and sent to prison for Lauren's murder after his interactions with her. The police bizarrely accused him of the crime with no real evidence to back this, and Roy was left in jail.

While in prison he was harassed by former villain Griff Reynolds, who even tried to kill Roy for harming Lauren. Criminal Griff was the pal of Lauren's father, extremist Reece Bolton.

While Lauren seemed to lose touch with her dad it was revealed he wanted to seek revenge on whoever killed his daughter. Roy was harassed multiple times before Griff even tried to kill him in his cell, before Roy was eventually released and proven innocent.

Griff was acting on behalf of Reece, with it suggested Reece had asked him to avenge his daughter for him. Griff prepared to hurt if not kill Roy to make him pay for Lauren's apparent murder.

So given how far he and Reece were prepared to go then, surely they would have wanted the same action taken against Joel? With Joel confirmed to have groomed, threatened and attacked Lauren before also trying to kill her unborn child, there's every chance Reece would have found this out.

With Roy a target surely Joel was too, given Joel was proven to be the culprit. So did Reece have someone take a brutal revenge on Joel for Lauren, and will that person or even Reece themself, if not Griff, be the killer?

As far as we are aware both Griff and Reece are still in prison. But if they did hire someone to take down Joel, could we see one or both of the villains back onscreen very soon as we learn the truth?

Taking to social media, one fan theorised: "I think Lauren told her dad In prison what Joel did and I think he got someone to finish Joel off." Another said: "My thoughts as well," as a third added: "Yes... very possibly." A further comment read: "I don’t think she talks to her dad but he could have found out some way though."
