The 'pretty' bookshelf game looks like a vintage classic novel from the outside, but when you open it up, there is a full-sized board game inside
by Charlotte Smith · The MirrorPeople have been blown away after spotting a serious bargain in TK Maxx. Taking to Facebook to share the news, one savvy shopper, Sharese, revealed she had got her hands on a £25 item in her local store, which usually costs much more online.
TK Maxx is selling Vintage Bookshelf Edition Games for just £24.99. They are meant to look like hardcover classic novels, but they become a board game when you open them up.
There are 15 bookshelf games in total, including Scrabble, Monopoly, Connect Four, Catch Phrase, and Boggle. Uploading a picture of the bookshelf games, Sharese said: " My local TKMAXX selling the monopoly for £25! I know a lot of people are trying to find these sets as they’re so expensive!!"
After her post gained hundreds of likes and comments, the shopper returned to say: "I have found 5 now!! All styles bought are £25 each! - The hunt for the rest begins!!"
Online, buying just one of these bookshelf games could cost you up to £44.99. On Infinity Collectables, buying the entire Hasbro collection will set you back £599.99 - the price was originally £674.85. This would equate to spending about £40 on each one.
However, you could save yourself more money by searching for the bookshelf games at TK Maxx as they are on sale for only £24.99 each. Online, a description of the games reads: "Discover endless family fun with our Vintage Bookshelf Collection – a delightful 15-pack of games elegantly disguised as classic novels.
"Unfold each fabric-bound treasure to reveal a world of interactive entertainment, perfect for creating cherished moments and fostering strong bonds with loved ones. The full set includes Boggle, Candy Land, Catch Phrase, Chess, Chutes and Ladders, Clue, Connect 4, The Game of Life, Monopoly, Mystery Date, Scrabble, Scattergories, Sorry!, Taboo, and Yahtzee."
In the comment section of Sharese's post, hundreds of shoppers were keen to get their hands on the 'gorgeous' items, which many say would look 'cute' on a shelf, coffee table or dressing table. Rosie commented: "Prettiest monopoly ever." Abi put: "I got one last year and it's gorgeous inside too."
Meanwhile, some have already been on the hunt for more. Nigel wrote: "I've hunted down 10 at tk max but still on the hunt for the remaining 9, anyone sees any please let me know!"
Commenting on the price difference, Danielle said: "£600 for 15 works out at £40 each, which isn’t that unreasonable considering the boxed version of monopoly is £30-£40 depending on the edition you buy!" Vicki added: "Seems like we've got a bargain on our hands."
Besides TK Maxx, some claimed they've seen the bookshelf games at other retailers. Steph said: "I think I saw some in Sports Direct." Maxine added: "GAME sell these too." Amazon is selling each WS Game Company Vintage Bookshelf Games if you are planning on starting up a collection of them, but they are priced at £44.99.
