Real reason for BBC Strictly Come Dancing stars' fallout as 'awkward' dance pair keep their distance
Lifelong friends Nancy Xu and Carlos Gu have reportedly fallen out and have even unfollowed each other on social media and Strictly Come Dancing fans are now finding out why
by Sam Elliott-Gibbs · The MirrorDetails surrounding the supposed falling out between two Strictly Come Dancing stars have been revealed.
Pros Carlos Gu, 33, and Nancy Xu, 34, are reportedly not speaking over the fact that he was not given a celebrity partner this year while Nancy was partnered with Shayne Ward. The pair, who have known each other since childhood, are understood to have totally cut off from one another despite decades of friendship.
It was recently revealed that they are currently refusing to talk with tensions raised between them when Carlos wasn't handed a starring role in the series. They have been seen awkwardly keeping their distance from each other but are both determined to not like their issues become another problem for producers.
Bosses are desperate for the show to pass off without incident after last year's bullying allegations which called into question the iconic long-running programme's future. Carlos and Nancy are keeping things civil but there's reportedly no sign of a reconciliation.
A Strictly insider told The Sun: "The feud between Nancy and Carlos is really sad and has left everyone really shocked. They've been close since childhood, but have fallen out and unfollowed each other on socials. The atmosphere on set is said to be awkward and tense when both are around, and to many it was a relief when Carlos didn't attend the show weeks ago."
But they don't want to cast a shadow over the series. Another source told MailOnline that the pair are doing their best to "keep things professional" while at work. They said: "Carlos and Nancy are extremely cordial and always incredibly professional on Strictly premises."
But this is not the only fall out as pro dancers Kai Widdrington and Nadiya Bychkova are said to be avoiding each other and Wynne Evans and his pro dancer Katya Jones, are hardly ever seen in the Clauditorium. According to reports, tensions are believed to be high since Nadiya and Kai's split, so much so, the pair occasionally do their best to not stand next to each other.
"It's painfully obvious Nadiya and Kai are in the awkward post-break up phase and struggling to be near one another," a source told The Sun last week. "When the pair are in the Clauditorium, they're always on opposite sides. Although they may have big smiles on their faces when the cameras are running, it's been very tense between them."
They added: "They refuse to be near each other at all on set- but there's not much room up there with all the professionals. They just have to do their best to avoid each other every weekend." Speaking to the Mirror about her working relationship with Kai post break-up, she said that she will remain professional. Nadiya explained: "'We work together but we are not friends and that's OK. One thing I can tell you is that when you see me dancing with him it will be amazing because I'm a professional."
