ITV has revealed the release date for their brand-new nail-biting drama, Joan.

The highly anticipated series starring actress Sophie Turner launches on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday, September 29, at 9pm. Fans will not have long to wait for the second episode either as this will air on Monday, September 30, at 9pm.

Once the first episode hits screens, viewers will be able to watch the entire series on ITVX. Actress Sophie is set to captivate audiences in the eagerly awaited six-part drama, where she takes on the complex role of Joan Hannington, a notorious jewel thief.

The series, penned by Anna Symon, is set against the colourful and ambitious backdrop of 1980s London, exploring the many layers of a mother, lover, liar, and thief. Inspired by the real-life events of Joan Hannington, this thrilling and emotional series is set to leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

The star-studded cast also includes Frank Dillaine, Kirsty J Curtis, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, and Laura Aikman. The new drama is written by Anna Symon (The Essex Serpent), while Richard Laxton (of Rain Dogs and The Thief, His Wife, and the Canoe) is in the director's chair and Ruth Kenley-Letts (Strike) serves as producer of the show.

The synopsis for the six-part drama reads: "When her partner Gary goes on the run, Joan seizes the chance to start a new life with her six-year-old daughter, Kelly. Delving deeper into the criminal underworld, Joan meets Boisie, an enigmatic antiques dealer whose allure introduces her to new levels of danger and passion.

"Through sharp intelligence, irresistible charm, and a talent for impersonation, Joan’s journey is a high-stakes game of survival and reinvention. Every heist and every stolen diamond is driven by her singular purpose: to create a secure future for her daughter."

Following the release of the trailer, Sophie, who has previously starred in Games of Thrones and XMen said: "I’m so excited to be bringing Joan Hannington’s fascinating life story to screen in Joan. She is one of the most notorious figures in the criminal underworld of London, earning her the nickname ‘The Godmother'.

"A woman who goes between her thriving and daring career as a jewel thief, all while trying to get her daughter back from social services, we see a mother in despair swept up in the exhilarating world of crime."

Joan launches on Sunday, September 29 at 9pm on ITV1.
