It's bad news for fans of The Inbetweeners as star Simon Bird admits a reunion is unlikely to happen despite the rumours.

The actor, now 40, who rose to fame with the noughties hit, has spilled the beans on the future of an Inbetweeners reunion, a decade after the last film was produced. The Friday Night Dinner star disclosed that despite three series and two films, there are no plans for a reunion in the near future.

Simon stated: 'I'm afraid to be the one pouring cold water on this but it's not happening. I can tell you emphatically that there are no prospects of a reunion." He clarified that while the cast would be more than willing to reprise their roles, the decision wasn't theirs to make.

Simon added to the Mail: 'We'd be happy to but it's not up to us, it's up to the writers, Iain and Damon, and I know they're both very busy these days. It's not more likely to happen now than it was ten years ago I'm afraid. I think it was a comedy that inhabited a certain time and, well, I think I caused quite a storm on social media in a previous interview where I said it wouldn't be made now but I'm not sure it would. So no there have been no discussion about a new show or film.."

Simon's comments come just days on from his co-star admitting he'd love to reprise his role in the cult classic comedy. James Buckley, the 37 year old actor who rose to fame as Jay Cartwright in Inbetweeners, is keen on a reunion of the popular sitcom. He starred alongside Joe Thomas, Simon Bird and Blake Harrison, playing the roles of Simon Cooper, Will McKenzie, Neil Sutherland respectively.

Joe, 40, recently hinted at discussions with writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris about reviving the comedy, and James is all for reprising his role as Jay. On his At Home With The Buckleys YouTube channel, he expressed his excitement: "I know as much as everyone else. It's exciting though, I'm excited about the idea of it. I read about it in the paper, I was like, 'Bloody hell, it's brilliant.' In talks. No one's talking to me. Let's see what happens."

Joe spilled that ideas had been pitched about the four friends returning for more misadventures and he thinks if the story is good enough then fans will get an 'Inbetweeners' reunion. While featuring on the 'Always Be Comedy' podcast, he shared: "All of us feel it would be nice to do. We're all still around, we're all still in each other's lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it. I feel like we all still really like each other."
