Eamonn Holmes 'doesn't regret' TV feud that led to Ruth Langsford marriage ending

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford announced their shock split in May after 27 years together - but did Eamonn's TV feud with a former co-star drive them further apart?

Eamonn Holmes reportedly ‘doesn’t regret’ behaviour that is said to have caused issues towards the end of his marriage to Ruth Langsford.

The outspoken TV host split with wife Ruth in May this year after 27 years together. The TV couple, who co-presented shows like This Morning, were married for 14 years and share 22-year-old son Jack.

But Eamonn’s dislike for his former This Morning co-star Phillip Schofield and his bitterness about being axed from ITV himself is said to have become so severe that it made things ‘awkward’ for Ruth, who is still a regular on ITV show Loose Women.

A source close to Eamonn - who has now moved on with 42-year-old girlfriend Katie Alexander – has claimed the presenter stands by what he said in his public outbursts, which is not thought to have done his marriage any favours.

The source told the Daily Mail: “Eamonn’s dislike for Phillip has existed for a long time, but it became very public at the end of his marriage to Ruth. And as his hatred for him and ITV grew, the cracks in their relationship grew deeper.

“Ruth became a bit dismayed at Eamonn for making repeated digs at ITV after they were axed from This Morning. Ruth wasn’t over the moon about it, but given she was still a cemented member of the Loose Women family, it made things somewhat awkward for her to have Eamonn criticising ITV.

“But Eamonn loathes Philip and has no regrets about what he said – and certainly doesn’t think he threw him under the bus. He doesn’t regret any of his behaviour. He believes he [Phil] is addicted to fame and he can’t believe he’s attempted to relaunch himself with his documentary last week.”

The pal further claimed that Eamonn is ‘trying to move on with his life and has no plans to ever make it up with Philip’. Their feud has been referred to as ‘one of the bitchiest in showbiz’ and it is said the feeling is so mutual they would ‘cross the road to avoid having to look at each other.’

Their feud is said to have started when Phil cut Ruth off mid-sentence live on air as they were presenting This Morning together back in 2019 – which led Ruth to file a formal complaint about him.

Phil said at the time: “Guys, we’re going to have to jump in there and stop you I’m afraid because we’re a bit tight for time at this end. Thank you Ruth,” to which Ruth hit back: “Well, I only had about two more words to say,” as she slammed down her pen in fury.

The in 2021, Ruth and Eamonn were axed from This Morning after 15 years and replaced by Alison Hammon and Dermot O’Leary, who now present the ITV show every Friday. Though neither was reportedly happy, Ruth kept quiet in public – unlike husband Eamonn, who claimed he was never given a proper reason as to why they were let go.
