Amber Gill shares secret to lasting friendship with Ovie Soko after Love Island connection

Former Love Island winner Amber Gill spoke to The Mirror about her close friendship and bond with former co-star Ovie Soko

Amber Gill has gushed over her lasting friendship with Love Island co-star Ovie Soko.

The Geordie beauty, 27, won the ITV show back in 2019 with Irish rugby player, Greg O'Shea. While her relationship with Greg didn't last, Amber has remained incredibly close friends with professional basketball player Ovie, 33, after the pair entered a friendship couple while they were in the famous Love Island villa.

It has been six years since Amber championed the show and became a household name, and while she admits that she's not as close to other people from her series, including Molly-Mae Hague and Maura Higgins, she still roots for them. However, she and Ovie have managed to maintain a strong bond throughout the years.

Amber had been embroiled in a turbulent romance with Michael Griffiths when Ovie stepped in as her brotherly protector on the fifth series of Love Island.

While viewers at the time had hoped a romantic connection would develop between Amber and Ovie but they instead remained close friends. It has now been six years since the pair made hearts warm on-screen and, fortunately, they’re still good friends even if they don’t get to see each other often.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at Captain Morgan and Pepsi MAX’s immersive pop-up, ‘The Mixer’, Amber shared: "I love Ovie. We don't meet up a lot but do you know when you have those friends and you just get each other. Despite being very busy all the time, we just slot into each other's lives because we know each other so well.

"If we ever have the opportunity to do things together, it just works and we come as pair. We've got like a real friendship there. We're grown people, we don't feel like we have to speak everyday and stuff, but when we do it's like we've just seen each other yesterday."

When asked if she's still close to other cast-members from her Love Island series, Amber admitted that it's difficult to keep in contact with everyone given her busy schedule and the fact that it's been six years since they were all on the ITV show together. "It's hard to keep in contact with everyone honestly, and it's been nearly six years since. I mean we all do have that shared experience of being on the show."
