Beyonce and Taylor Swift lead the way as women dominate 67th Grammy Award nominations

Beyonce goes head to head with nominees including Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish for album of the year as Cowboy Carter is nominated for the prestigious gong in this year's Grammys

Beyonce secured nods for her chart-topping country music album Cowboy Carter, which marked the follow-up to act one of the trilogy, Renaissance.

The iconic singer, 43, made history during the Grammys ceremony last year, securing the most awards won in a lifetime, after picking up her 32nd gong. However, the star has never won the prestigious album of the year award. This year, Cowboy Carter has secured nods for album of the year and best country album, while the popular track Texas Hold ‘Em is up for the coveted record of the year and song of the year awards.

Beyonce is competing against megastar Taylor Swift, whose surprise double album The Tortured Poets Department is also up for album of the year, with her track featuring Post Malone, titled Fortnight, is up for record of the year and song of the year. It comes after Taylor made Grammy history in February as the first person to win album of the year four times.

The globally renowned star used her acceptance speech at the ceremony to announce the release of her 11th studio album, which saw her become the most-streamed artist in a single day, on streaming platform Spotify The Grammy nominations also saw Billie Eilish nominated in the top categories for her third studio album, Hit Me Hard And Soft, which was released in May. The fourth track on the record, titled Birds Of A Feather, scored nods for record of the year and song of the year, while the album is up for album of the year.

The nominations also saw a host of British stars nominated including Charli XCX whose sixth studio album Brat, which inspired a summer trend, is competing in the album of the year category. Her track 360 is also up for record of the year, while her duet with Billie, titled Guess, secured a nod for best pop duo performance.

The Beatles Now And Then track is also up for record of the year, while British star Raye received her first nods for best new artist and songwriter of the year non-classical. Last year, during the 66th Grammy Awards also saw female musicians dominate in the major categories. At the time, Billie took home song of the year for her hit track What Was I Made For? from the film Barbie, while Miley Cyrus won record of the year for her viral summer hit Flowers.

During her acceptance speech, it was noticed that Miley had left her father out. At the time she said: "This award is amazing. But I really hope that it doesn’t change anything because my life was beautiful yesterday. Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular..."

She added: "So please don’t think that this is important, even though it’s very important, right guys? '[I want to thank] everyone that’s standing on this stage right now Tom, Tyler, Michael and Greg... Our teams, my team, Crush, Columbia, my mommy, my sister, my love, my main gays because look how good I look..."

She ended her speech saying: "Anyone else? Your wife, your fiancée, all the people that we love. Thank you all so much. I don’t think I forgot anyone. But I might have forgotten underwear. Bye!" Only recordings commercially released in the US between Sept 16 2023 to August 30 2024 are eligible for nominations for the 2025 ceremony.
