by · Manchester Evening News

Christmas time is about indulging in all things delicious and the shops are currently busy stocking their shelves with festive treats to enjoy with your family.

Aldi’s new “Chreaster eggs” have invoked a debate on X with some shoppers finding them 'disgraceful' yet others finding them adorable.

The new chocolate range consists of a hollow Easter-egg like design with Christmas characters including Garry the Gingerbread Man and Parker the Penguin.

A shopper stumbled upon the festive hybrid last week and posted a picture on X, captioning it: “Merry Chreaster ya filthy animal.”

Aldi reposted the image and said: “Babe what’s wrong you’ve hardly touched your Chreaster egg”.

The unexpected product launch has divided the internet - some shoppers appear to be outraged by the new Christmas chocolate.

One person said: “Eggs! Just no, Aldi. We all know that Christmas chocolate is either sphere, triangular, circular or hexagon shaped! The most exotic shape allowed is Quality Street's purple one!”

Another sceptical shopper said: “This is just to save the embarrassment of having Easter eggs on the shelves on Boxing Day isn’t it?!” In stark contrast, one person said: “I’ll take them all thank you”.

Another Aldi fan said: “I love Aldi, just when you think they can't do better. This is so cursed I actually love it.”

One shopper suggested that Aldi could even take things a step further, asking: “Where's the Chreasterween eggs?”

Aldi replied: “Wow, now... We can't go full throttle right off the mark! We thought we would ease our customers in with the Chreaster eggs first! Final destination: Easummalloweemas eggs!”
