by · Manchester Evening News

Phillip Schofield has said he's 'keeping up a family tradition' as he spoke for the first time since announcing her heartbreaking death. The ex-broadcaster shared a series of pictures to social media as he announced his mother had died on Monday afternoon (October 14) after a "heartbreaking weekend".

"Over three days, we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that needed to be said," Phillip said on his Instagram story. "She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified. I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mum," he added.

He said his mother had joined his father, her “beloved Brian”, who died in 2008. "Our eternal thanks to the paramedics. Treliske A&E and Critical Care team who have been, in the past and this weekend, my mum’s and our angels. Your love and care has been our saviour. I love you mum, forever," Phillip added, with a heartbreak emoji.

He later shared a video of a plane flying overhead, captioning it: "God I loved her for wanting to do this. One of the oldest ever ladies to wing walk."

Now, days after sharing the sad news, Phillip has returned to social media. On Instagram on Wednesday (October 16), the former This Morning star shared a photo of a box of fish and chips while in the car.

It showed the night already setting by the coast with views of the ocean and cliffs nearby while rain drop fell onto the window of what appeared to be Phillip's car.

Phillip was honouring a family tradition

He added the caption: "Keeping up the family tradition. Flounders fish on the headland," confirming he was in Cornwall where his mother lived.

The news of Phillip's mother's death comes after he starred in Channel 5 programme Cast Away at the end of last month, where he discussed departing ITV in May 2023 after admitting to a secret affair with a younger male colleague.

In the show, the TV star, who left ITV after admitting to an "unwise but not illegal affair" with a colleague last year, spent 10 days alone on a small island off the coast of Madagascar in his first return to a TV series since leaving This Morning.
