Coronation Street's Claire Sweeney gives 'cheeky' update with co-star and has fans doing double take

Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney shared a 'cheeky' update alongside her co-star as he prepares to follow in her footsteps away from the cobbles.

The actress, who is currently playing Cassie Plummer in the ITV soap, took to social media to reveal she'd been doing some filming with Sam Aston, who is famed for playing Weatherfield's Chesney Brown. It was revealed not too long ago that Sam will be taking part in Dancing on Ice in early 2025 following Claire's own appearance in the ITV skating competition back at the start of 2024.

Sam will join the likes of TV personality Ferne McCann, The Traitors' Mollie Pearce and Olympic rowing champion Sir Steve Redgrave on the ice in the New Year when the show returns with Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern as hosts. When he was confirmed to be taking part on This Morning at the end of September, Sam admitted: "I'm nervous but it still feels like forever to go. I'm excited to get going. It's going to be nice for the public to see me for me rather than Chesney."

Now, taking to Instagram, Claire shared a snap of herself and Sam alongside Corrie's head of hair and makeup Gillian Walsh. Alongside the post, the former Brookside star teased: "Cheeky bit of filming with @samaston93 @gillywalshy @coronationstreet."

And fans were quick to respond. @k.chandler1964 said: "Lovely photo of you lovely guys." @davecunningham187 commented: "Bloody wonderful darling Cassie & chez." @abbasteve71 replied: "Great photograph."

But some had to double take as they thought Sam was Campbell Hatton, the son of Claire's famous boxer beau Ricky Hatton. @david.heatherwick asked: "Is that Chez or Campbell Hatton." @bobbymoore19662024 added: "Thought it was Ricky's son."
