Popular north west Halloween attraction named among UK’s best

by · Manchester Evening News

Immersive Halloween experiences have grown increasingly popular in recent years and according to recent research, one of the best in the UK is right here in the north west. Scare City in Chorley was ranked third in a list of the best freight night and scare events in the country.

Scare City returned this year to the abandoned Camelot theme park in Lancashire for its instalment. It features 10 terrifying zones contained within the derelict theme park, live actors and horrifying SFX to get the adrenaline pumping.

Those who are brave enough can navigate their way through the Slaughter House, where Camelot's “resident cannibal” is hosting a dinner party; Carni Valley, a creepy take on a funhouse; and Arakhne, which promises to be a scary experience for arachnophobes.

Scare City beat the likes of Alton Towers Scarefest and Hallowscream at York Maze. But it missed out on a position in the top two - in fact occupied by three Halloween experiences. Scream Factory in Redcar bagged the number one spot, while another north west attraction Scare Kingdom in Blackburn came joint second alongside Thorpe Park Fright Nights in Surrey.

To compile the list researchers from Spin Genie UK looked at adult ticket prices, location, social media buzz and online searches to reveal the top ten rankings. Chorley’s Scare City bagged a score of 7.08, and was one of the most searched for events with 86,510 Google searches. Although it's Instagram hashtags were dwarfed by Redcar’s Scream Factory, which amassed 132,000 in total - considerably more than the 1,000 hashtags racked up by Scare City.

In fifth place was another local scare attraction: Farmageddon in Ormskirk. It achieved a score of 6.67, and proves popular on social media with 20,200 Hashtags on Instagram. Meanwhile Warrington’s Spooky World rounded off the top ten with a score of 4.37.
