Coronation Street fans have said they 'feel sick' as they fear they have 'worked out' DS Lisa Swain's involvement in Joel Deering's death. A murder investigation is underway after the solictors body was found months after him going missing.

As viewers of the ITV soap know, Joel, played by Calum Lill, was last seen on-screen at the end of September after he evaded court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

In then scenes aired at the end of September, after transferring money to Lauren and his ex-wife Emily, it was believed Joel may have ended up taking his own life - something ex-fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey didn't believe.

It was then during Monday night's episode (October 14) of Corrie that viewers saw three lads at a riverbank spotting a body floating in the water. PC Craig Tinker soon approached Swain and Kit Green and announced that they’ve found Joel's body. As the news was broken to the likes of Lauren and Dee-Dee, it was Kit who later confirmed Joel was dead when he went in the water, turning the case into a murder investigation.

The hunt for Joel's killer is now underway and during Wednesday's (October 16) trip to the cobbles, Kit reveals to Lisa that Joel died from two blows to the head, inflicted by a heavy weapon, most likely a crowbar.

Lisa was shocked to discover from Yasmeen Metcalfe that she had thrown Mason Radcliffe out because he had a crowbar. Swain went back to the station to encourage Kit to look into the possible lead and later, as the teen disposed of the tool in a bin, he was caught in the act by Kit.

Hauled in for question, Kit asked Mason who admitted he threw out the crowbar after refusing to do a burglary for his brothers and was squatting in Speed Daal alone on the night Joel was killed.

It was suggested that he may have had motive thanks to his relationship with Betsy Swain and in a flashback clip, it appeared Mason wasn't quite telling the truth about not being interested in Betsy as she was seen visiting him in tears and scared that Joel was going to come after her as Mason vowed to protect her on the night Joel was killed.

But despite Mason, and soon Ronnie Bailey, being the two suspects so far, some Corrie fans are still convinced Swain could end up being responsible for Joel's death, after he was seen with a scratch on his face during his last scenes and she was later seen double over in pain, and came up with a theory as to why.

@Jess_Soaps said: "WHAT IF!! The night of the murder, when Betsie went to Mason because she thought Joel would go to her house, he actually did and it was only Lisa in and that is how she is involved. Oh this is making me feel sick #Corrie." @sabranxi commented: "Wait i’m thinking….. betsy wasnt home the night joel died so lisa went looking for her and got into some sort of fight with whoever idk but that’s what’s going on with her! maybe she fell or was shoved by a 'drunk' joel! #corrie."

@ElloTeenah wrote "Listen I can’t have Lisa having killed Joel to protect Betsy bc I need her on the show long enough for her and Carla to do things. #Corrie." @AmyLizzi added: "So, Swain has a mystery injury & Joel turns up with a whack over the head #Corrie @itvcorrie #CoronationStreet."
