BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Johannes Radebe's 'anger' exposed after on-air 'clash'

by · Manchester Evening News

Johannes Radebe is said to have displayed 'anger' as he watched a slight on-air 'clash' unfold in front of him live in the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom.

It was a rollercoaster of a weekend for the professional dancer over the weekend as he returned to compete in week seven of the BBC One dance contest with his celebrity dance partner Montell Douglas before they later landed in the dreaded dance-off.

The new 'Icons' themed week saw the remaining 10 celebrities and their professional dance partners take to the dance floor on Saturday night (November 2) to perform a routine accompanied by a track from a well-known singer or band.

During the latest live show, Olympian Montell and her professional dance partner Johannes scored 35 out of a possible 40 for their waltz to I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston. But despite the score, judge Craig Revel Horwood said: "I wanted it softer and lighter, frame was in and out." The comment sparked uproar on the judging panel as Shirley Ballas gave him a ticking off.

As he gave his comments, she blasted him: "Craig! Oh my goodness I don't agree with you at all! What are you doing?!" before leaping out of her seat. Motsi tried to interject before Shirley got her to move out of the way so she could get closer to Craig and told him: "He had that beautiful frame, he dropped his arms, she looked at him willingly ready to go with soft movement, with beautiful footwork. Improving."

She then asked: "What more do you want?" to which Craig hit back: "A choice darling, a choice!" Shirley argued: "She did so many choices. They were beautiful both in and out of hold." Craig had the final word in the row as he mocked 'says Cousin IT', referencing Shirley's wig before Motsi told the audience: "I think there's a lesson to learn. When mummy and daddy have a fight, get out of the room."

Now, body language expert Judi James has provided an insight into the emotional turmoil being faced by the show's stars, including Johannes. Speaking to Buzz Bingo she said: "Shirley’s attack on Craig appeared to be another excuse to showcase her costume,” Judi continued. “However, despite the panto nature of the ‘attack,’ there did seem to be undercurrents of some sort towards either Craig or even Johannes."

She went on to say of Johannes: "Johannes has become a star outside the show and although he is clearly doing everything to get Montell to a potential glitterball win, his body language appears transformed this season. His usual smile involves a ‘devilish’ eyebrow shape, twinkling eye expressions and a mouth smile that involves a flat top lip and a ‘bucket’ lower jaw drop, which is all much more gorgeous than it sounds.

"This season his jaw looks firm and defiant and his lips are often clamped. He appears subdued, sitting in training with his legs stretched out and one hand placed between them in a more introvert display than ever before, leaning away onto one arm as though making for the door.

"Sitting alone for his piece to camera he is equally subdued in a plain knitted hat pulled low and a bomber jacket zipped right up, sitting with his hands clasped calmly in front of his torso. He and Montell do appear close and this week’s routine was sublime but he actively steps back to allow her to be the star after their dances. But these are not the same upbeat body language traits that normally pick the very popular Johannes out as one of Strictly’s key stars."
