Netflix's 'perfect show from start to finish' confirms stacked cast for second season

by · Manchester Evening News

Netflix is bulking up its star power for the second series of Beef with some significant new additions to the cast.

Following the intense enmity between Danny Cho (played by Steven Yeun) and Amy Lau (Ali Wong) sparked by an incident of road rage in its first season, the show's narrative saw their retaliatory antics spiral out of control as their mutual loathing consumed their everyday lives, leading to drastic consequences.

With Danny and Amy's narrative concluded, Beef will pivot to an anthology format, introducing a fresh selection of characters.

The streaming giant has officially announced that the leading roles for its upcoming series will be filled by none other than Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, accompanied by Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny.

Isaac has gained acclaim for his portrayal of Poe Dameron in the recent Star Wars films and as Duke Leto Atreides in Dune, while Mulligan has garnered praise for her compelling performances in Promising Young Woman and Maestro, reports the Mirror.

Melton made his mark on the popular CW series Riverdale and received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in May December; Spaeny has been making waves internationally after landing parts in Alien: Romulus, Civil War, and Priscilla.

Tudum has tantalized fans with insights into the new season, claiming: "This season's inciting incident? A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner."

With its talented ensemble and captivating concept, the second season of Beef is poised to be an unmissable event for Netflix viewers, but will it match the exceptional standard set by its predecessor?

One ardent fan on X (formerly Twitter) lavished praise on the series: "#BEEFNetflix is a masterwork of pettiness and jaw-dropping escalation, riotously funny and genuinely profound, digging into how "hurt people" hurt people.

"Steven Yuen and Ali Wong give world-class performances. 2023's best TV series so far."

"I just finished #BEEFNetflix #beef and wow. One of the best shows I've seen in a while," another fan commented.

"Exceptional performances all around. Yeun and Wong are fantastic. Funny, thrilling and anxiety inducing. What a show. Netflix has a WINNER."

A separate online reviewer awarded the show five stars, writing: "Beef is the epitome of the 21st century and is relatable to everyone while pushing things to the extreme. Steven Yuen and Ali Wong are perfect as rivals feuding over a mild road rage incident.
