Celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sorbie has died at the age of 75 just weeks after announcing that his bowel cancer had spread and was terminal.

The announcement of his death was made on his social media accounts on November 8, PA reported. The statement read: "“It is with heartfelt emotion that we share the passing of our esteemed founder, Trevor Sorbie. He passed away peacefully with his family and beloved dog by his side."

“From pioneering The Wedge five decades ago to establishing our first salon in 1979, Trevor’s vision set new standards and continues to inspire generations.

“Trevor often reminded us to ‘be bold, be different, but always do everything in good taste’. His ethos of kindness, care, and excellence continues to guide us. He expressed immense pride in our team and confidence in our commitment to carrying forward his legacy.”

Born in Scotland, Sorbie began his career cutting hair as an apprentice to his father in 1964. He opened his own barbers aged 20, and would graduate to opening his own salon in London in 1977, after working at Toni & Guy and John Frieda.

He appeared on a string of daytime television shows and contributed to many magazines, and also had his own charity, My New Hair, which advocates for cancer patients and sufferers of alopecia to have more realistic looking wigs - to 'feel as much like themselves as they can'.

It was created after Sorbie was involved in aiding his brother's wife to create a realistic-looking wig as she battled bone cancer.

He was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2019 and revealed on This Morning in October of this year that the cancer had spread to his liver, and that he had been given only a few weeks to live. He leaves behind one daughter.
