BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden 'not ok' as she offers injury update after heartbreaking exit

by · Manchester Evening News

Amy Dowden has admitted she'd be 'lying if she said she was ok' as she made a vow following her heartbreaking injury setback. The dancer made a triumphant return to Strictly Come Dancing earlier this year after being forced to miss the last series for cancer treatment.

But earlier this month, Amy was forced to miss the first-ever 'Icons Week' on Strictly after "falling ill" the weekend before and missing a week of rehearsals to rest. As a result, Amy's fellow pro Lauren Oakley stepped in so JB could continue to perform in the first-ever 'Icons Week'.

But soon after, it was confirmed that due to a foot injury, 34-year-old Amy needed to recover and therefore couldn't continue in the competition. It was then confirmed that JB would carry on in the latest Strictly series alongside Lauren and last weekend, they wowed with their first performance, a samba, as an official Strictly couple.

Appearing on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two after the news was confirmed last week, Amy tearfully said: "I'm absolutely gutted, unfortunately I have an insufficiency stress fracture, if I've said that right, on my shin. this injury could have happened to anybody. I want to stress it's nothing to do with any previous health scares."

She's since shown her support for JB and Lauren as they continue the competition with her backing and Amy has now confirmed she's working hard to make sure she'll be back dancing very soon.

Taking to Instagram, the Welsh star shared videos of her in the gym doing a workout which started with her getting her heart rate up with some cardio on a bike before moving on to a string of weighted exercises. She said: "Thank you @physios2u and @xfmerryhill for your amazing space allowing us to help and push with my recovery.

"Some of today's exercises! I'm determined! Don't get bitter, get better! Those dreams certainly aren't fading away and I'll always continue to work hard to be the best version of myself."

Amy then reshared a video she'd posted to mark one year since she rang the end of treatment bell after being diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Alongside it she emotionally wrote on her Instagram Story: "One year on and I'm determined to keep pushing this next year.

"Thank you to all who messaged this past week, it truly means everything! I'd be lying if I said I'm ok, but I know I will be and I'm lucky to have so many loved ones around me! 2025 sounds like and even better year, ay!"
