Bonnie Tyler, whose birth name is Gaynor Sullivan, is a 73-year-old Welsh singer recognised for her distinctive husky voice and her chart-topping hit 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'.

She first gained prominence in the late 1970s with her 1977 album The World Starts Tonight. The singles, 'Lost in France' and 'More Than a Lover', were particularly well-received.

Her single 'It's Heartache', from her album Natural Force, climbed to number four on the UK Singles Chart, and number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.

In the 1990s, the Welsh songstress found success in Europe with songwriter Dieter Bohlen who penned 'Bitterblue'. She also represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013.

Before embarking on her successful singing career, Bonnie was raised in Skewen, Neath, Wales in a four-bedroom council house alongside three sisters and two brothers, reports the Express.

Despite her global fame, Bonnie has remained 'true' to her roots, currently residing in Mumbles on the Gower Peninsula near Swansea Bay with her husband, property developer Robert Sullivan.

The pair do not have any children and have invested in property worldwide including 22 homes in Berkshire and London and a farm in New Zealand.

They also own a five-bedroom home in Albufeira, Portugal in the Algarve. It is believed that Bonnie divides her time between South Wales and Portugal, with the singer expressing her fondness for the Gower coast.

Last year, she told the BBC : "I love Mumbles and the Gower coast.

"When we get the weather you couldn't be in a better place. I always loved it down this way and I like keeping close to my family."
