Plymouth kids wanted to star in this year's Theatre Royal pantomime

Theatre Royal Plymouth is offering primary school children who live within a 20-mile radius the chance to be a part of this year’s pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – and are holding a pre-audition workshop this weekend for children new to the stage.

After the successful return of a children’s ensemble in its panto, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, last year, TRP are auditioning for 16 children to be part of show, appearing alternately from Friday December 13 until Saturday, January 11.

To be able to audition, children should be in Year 3 to 6, live within a 20-mile radius of the theatre and not be taller than 4 feet 7 inches.

All those trying out should be competent in modern dance and will be taught a routine as part of the audition.

Two teams of eight children will be chosen to appear alternately in the pantomime which will be taking place from Friday 13 December to Saturday 11 January.

Auditions take place at TR2 Production & Learning Centre in Cattedown from 10am – 1pm on October 27, with registration from 9:15am.

The theatre are keen to ensure that there are no financial barriers associated with accessing this opportunity, so there are also offering travel bursaries to support travel expenses required to take part in the show.

All meals on show days will also be provided.

TRP say they are particularly keen to meet young people who have never been involved in their pantomimes before and are encouraging young performers from all backgrounds to audition.

As such they are holding a first-come, first-served pre-audition workshop this weekend where children can get a feeling for the kind of dance stops they might want to learn for the audition. Email young.company@theatreroyal.com for more details.

Birds of a Feather’s Lesley Joseph will star as The Wicked Queen in this year’s panto, with broadcaster and barrister Rob Rinder as The Man In The Mirror.

Following her lead role in The Artist earlier this year, Briana Craig will be returning to Plymouth this festive season playing Snow White, alongside comedian Andy Ford as Muddles, and West End stars Samuel Holmes and Scott Maurice as The Governess and The Prince.

Among the additional requirements, children must be available for the following rehearsals:

Thursday 07 November, 5pm-6:30pm;

Thursday 21 November, 5pm-6:30pm;

Thursday 28 November, 5pm–6:30pm;

Sunday December 1, 10am–Noon.

They must also be available every day from Monday December 9 until Saturday January 11 for full company rehearsals and performances.

Taking part in the auditions and the show are all free of charge.
