Coronation Street fans 'work out' who Betsy's real father is - and he's a familiar face

Coronation Street fans are convinced they've 'cracked' the identity of Betsy Swain's real father - and he's already a familiar face on the cobbles.

The mischievous character, portrayed by Sydney Martin, arrived on the scene earlier this year as the offspring of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

It was disclosed that Lisa's wife and Betsy's mother, Becky, had tragically passed away while on duty, resulting in a tense relationship between Betsy and Lisa.

Betsy hasn't wasted any time stirring up trouble. She found herself entangled with the unscrupulous solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill), blackmailing him before he threatened her, leaving her frightened and unsettled.

Viewers will remember Joel as the man who groomed and abused young girls, including Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) who disappeared. Lauren eventually came back, revealing Joel's 'true' nature.

Joel has since been killed, with the soap currently showcasing a gripping Whodunnit storyline. A variety of residents have become suspects, including Joel's former fiance Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown), Lisa Swain and, after Friday's shocking episode (November 1), corrupt police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), reports the Liverpool Echo.

Kit was spotted meddling with evidence related to the investigation into Joel Deering's death. However, fans are anticipating a major plot twist as they believe they've 'sussed out' the identity of Betsy's biological father.

Coronation Street fans have a buzzing theory about mysterious character Kit. Discussed fervently on a Corrie fan page on Facebook, one viewer speculated: "Could Kit be Betsy's dad? And that's why he's so against Swain?"

Another fan was in agreement, adding simply: "100%". A third weighed in, offering: "It's possible. If the mother used a sperm donor. And Kit donated sperm. Anything is possible in soap land." With a fourth concurring: "Good thinking. Possible I suppose."

Earlier this year marked Betsys first appearance on the Street, and it was also Sydney's inaugural acting role on a television series. She shared her excitement with Liverpool Echo, stating: "I was over the moon" to get the part.

Sydney, furthermore, revealed that before landing the coveted role of Betsy, she had tried out for two minor parts on the show earlier in the year. She told Liverpool Echo: "In this industry, it can be so hard because you deal with so much rejection."

"But, just to get a recall and meet [DS Swain star] Vicky [Myers], I just took it as a good experience I didn't take it as I was gonna get it. When you're starting off in this career, any bit of hope is lovely. It's all about meeting people and networking, that's what makes it such a beautiful industry."
